Author Encounter with Heather Hawkins

Sometimes life takes us to places we never planned to go.
An incredible journey from an ordinary life to one of extraordinary adventure.

At 41, with two teenagers and a contentedly unadventurous life, Heather Hawkins called her doctor and began an incredible journey from an ordinary life to one of extraordinary adventure. Nine days after being diagnosed with stage one ovarian cancer, Heather underwent surgery to remove an 18 cm tumour and perform a complete hysterectomy. The experience reignited an adventurous and invincible spirit in Heather.

At 44, Heather completed her Surf Lifesaving Bronze Medal, and her hunger for physical challenges continued to grow, when at 47 she put on an old pair of runners and completed the Mothers Day fun run with her kids. In 2016, Heather, with her two children spent 152 days trekking across northern Nepal, to complete the worlds longest and highest alpine trekking challenge, the Great Himalayan Trail.

And she's only just getting started ...

From fun runs to ultra marathons and adventures still to come, Heather honours all the women who have encountered cancer and encourages us all, to live life to the fullest.
